Group 2
Our group was able to research and identify Chemical Energy and how it used to help plants grow.
Plants use the light from the sun to grow. Plants absorb the solar energy and use it to grow. Plants store solar energy in their roots, fruits, and leaves. This energy is called Chemical Energy. When we eat plants we store the energy in our bodies. The energy in meat that we eat also come from plants. A cow will eat plants and then we eat the cow - so the plant energy go to the cow, the cow is then eaten by us and we store the cow energy.
Solar Energy - 3rd Grade
Solar Energy is RENEWABLE, FREE & CLEAN. We will never run out of it. The Sun will keep making energy for millions of years.

In researching Solar Energy we found it extremely interesting. We learned how the sun produces energy that is sent to earth by RAYS. We found out how some rays are called light rays that we can see; and others are like x-rays. The energy in rays are called Radiant Energy.
It was also interesting how we solar energy can be absorbed by solar panels to warm our homes, schools, and office buildings. By placing panels on our roof we can capture the rays and convert to energy to be used instead of electricity.

The water cycle is also powered by Solar Energy. Water moves from the clouds to earth and then back to the clouds. The sun heats water on earth. The water evaporates - it turns to water vapor -and rises back into the air to form clouds.

Instructions
In this lesson, we'll explore ways we use Solar Energy.
We will divide the class in 2 groups ( Group 1 -Radiant Energy and Group 2 -Chemical Energy)
Research the internet to answer the questions below.
In addition, you will need to create a 2 to 4 minute presentation
to your classmates. Each group will present ways we can use Solar Energy to preserve the worlds resources.
STANDARDS:
PS 4.1a Observe, identify and describe a variety of forms of energy:
- Sound
- Heat
- Chemical
- Mechanical
- Electricity
PS 4.2a,b Identify the evidence for energy transformations and how humans use these energy transformations.
- Heat to Light
- Chemical to Electrical
- Electrical to Sound
- What is Solar Energy?
- How do we use Solar Energy from the sun?
- What is Radiant Energy?
- What is Chemical Energy?
- How does Solar Energy affect the Water Cycle?
- How do we use Energy in our lives?
- What are some foods made that are made from plants?
- How does the energy in a hamburger come from the sun?
- Should you wear a white shirt or a black shirt on a hot, sunny day?
